John’s Last Wish – Fishing on Vancouver Island
It was John’s last wish. We’d known each other for over thirty years, but his time with us was coming to a close. We’d known for a couple of years that the end was close, and he was persistent in his wish that we take him out so he could watch his closest friends fishing on Vancouver Island. He wasn’t strong enough to hold the rod, but this had always been his favorite fishing spot. I think he just wanted to get out there one last time, to say goodbye almost. It was a gut wrenching experience for all of us, but seeing the smile fleetingly cross John’s lips when Phil landed a 30lb plus Halibut made it more than worth the effort.
