Curious What the Best Way to Tone My Arms and Shoulders Is

Everyone always comments on how thin I am. I will admit that I am on the thinner side but I am also lanky and not very toned. I want to get a little bit more muscular so that I am not just skinny. I have been looking into different upper body exercises that might help me. I figure if I start with my upper body, after I get that a bit more toned, then I can start working my way down to my core and eventually I may even start to tone up my legs and my lower body if it all goes well.
